New Photo Project ~ Conception Stage

You have to begin somewhere....

My thought is to "temporarily" place a WHOLE BUNCH OF DIMES on a sheet of glass and take a photograph.

Setup: The glass (yet to be acquired) will be elevated and lit from below (somehow).
The dimes will be placed in a particular order and represent a QR Code that asks the age old question: "Got any spare change?"

Outside the Code will be Quarters, Nickels, Pennies...

I chose Dimes because they take up less Real Estate and I'm not sure how loge the Missus will allow me to take space on the Kitchen or Dining Room.

I imagine I will need to really boost a few sliders to to capture enough contrast...hum, I wonder...if I....

That's a neat idea, Dean. Look forward to seeing the end product.

Some artists are obviously so wealthy... ;-)

That looks to be about how much I have made off my work over the past year :-)

Love your creativity and thinking outside the box Dean. This would be fantastic if the resulting image could be scanned and take the viewer to an appropriate (fundraising?) site.

Another option for the black areas may be to use pennies. Hoping this works for you and we get to see a final/working result.

Project beginning. I have about half the rows setout.

At this stage I just have to find out IF laying out Nickels can actually be read by a QR reader.

My plan at this period is to setout 625 nickels in a grid pattern with 333 of those glued to white cardstock. ($31.25...or 16 rolls from the Bank.)

Once the nickels have set I will remove the unglued coins an see if it works. If it cannot read the nickels it maybe due to contrast which I might be able to adjust with either room lighting or more likely...place a penny on top of the glued nickels and try again. Yeah, throwing good money after bad.

This is only the feasibility stage...sheesh.

Love your imagination, Dean!

Rich b@$&*%d, throwing money around.

The Nickels and Pennies without spacing worked for about 3 times at various angles then suddenly stopped working.

I tried various lighting with no luck, so I removed the excessive Nickels and I discovered an extra Penny that was throwing it off.

If you have a QR reader you can try it out for yourself on the photo.

Oh...and with 625 Nickels, it's heavy.

Very cool! It did work for me.

Mounted on glass and works great.

Time to clean the excessive glue and...

>S*N*A*P <

The weight was 9.8 pounds. The coinage and bits of glass are now soaking in a vat of Goo Gone. Oh, well. Maybe Legos next time.

I love your dedication to this project Dean, thanks for sharing.

Oh no! It was certainly a great concept.

First step was to remove all the glass from the coins and the exterior glue. [NOTE TO SELF: Don't use permanent glue next time]

Next step is ungluing the Nickels from the Pennies...I call this step: Money Laundering

There's crazy, and there's good crazy. You good crazy, Dean. I like.
