I am not an astrophotographer by any means. I just thought the moon looked interesting a year ago, and took a few pictures. The images seemed to fit this month's Atmosphere challenge.

They certainly do Jennifer - thanks for posting these fine images.
A question for all on aperture - clearly depth of field isn't an issue in this instance, but it is commonly thought that lenses perform better around f/8. Of course then the longer time or increased ISO may come into play.
So the question for this type of work becomes what is most important - aperture (for sharpness), speed or ISO?
Just to get the thinking juices going - my gut feeling is that we need to prioritize speed as any tripod vibration etc might be telling. Let's hear your thoughts.
Hi Alan! I played around with the aperture (and iso) on a bunch of the images - up to f/16. Like you mentioned, it would be great to hear what others have to say and/or recommend. At least a good starting place.
You're at infinite focus(!) so for moonshots, the sharpest aperture is best but for general astro, you do it wide open to let in the most light.
Prefer the first one. Great shots.
Thank you, Charles. That makes sense. I appreciate you taking time to add to the discussion!
