Weekend Experiment 2: In The Round Tree

Here's a softer one as Kyle commented in my last one.

f/4.0
1/640
iso 100
18-135mm lens @18 mm

10 layers - all set at 25% (done before Alan's advice).

The right side of the initial photos were not the best material to work with so I copied the left and flipped horizontally. The road actually goes around the tree; so the flipped layer worked well with what was already there.

PROS for me: subject, colors, subject distinct from background
CONS for me: the bottom third of the photo feels too heavy due to the shadow.

I like this Jen, though I suspect that at 25% opacity only the top layers are having any effect. Again, you can test by turning each layer on/off.
Even though all are set the same you'll likely see the impact diminishing as you turn off layers further down the stack, and as I say likely zero impact when you turn off the base layer.

I'd be interested to see the difference with the top layer set to say 5%, and gradually increasing with the 2nd bottom around 40%. I normally try to set all layers to have a similar impact and then increase where needed, but there's absolutely no rules around this. The key is to play around and see what suits your own taste best.

You are definitely improving your technique, and this holds lots of promise.
