JULY Challenge: Out of Place

Hello Everyone! Had the chance to deliberately look for out of place image subjects today - before the end of the month! There's always randomly odd things going on when visiting my brother-in-law ...

#1 I was in his vegetable garden photographing bees enjoying his mint flowers when I looked down to see one of those watermelons that grow with the sticker already attached - lol. It was odd until I realized it was only half an empty shell that had been tossed.

#2 Lone piece of clothing hanging on the clothesline

#3 Not sure from where this little guy came, but he's been hanging there for a long time.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their summer (or winter down below)!

Nice. The second one a little darker would be really spooky and the last one is great. Though I'd probably remove the dead stick from its shoulder.

Thanks, Charles! I was debating about darkness or not for the second one. I'll use it as a PS filters experiments. As for the dead stick from the shoulder, you're right about that. Hope you are well and enjoying travels this summer!

I travel in the winter. Rough summer, thanks for asking though.

Thank you Jennifer.

#1 ~ I love the DoF with this composition.

The warning "May contain an occasional seed" is a warning to us all. Why? I dunno.

#2 ~ Reminds be of a story...I'm old and old people always have a story...

One day my father-in-law went to the store to purchase a new clothes line to replace the weather-worn one. Conversation with the young saleswoman went something like this:

"Hello, is there something I can help you find?" she asks.

"Yes," he replies, "I'm looking for a clothes line."

Sale associate has a deer in the headlights look and a bit slack jawed.

Seeing the girl doesn't have a clue, he explains, "It is a cloth cord that you hang wet clothes on outside to dry."

A slow dawning appears is her eyes as she realized what this old man needs, "Oh, you mean a Solar Dryer."

#3 ~ I love potted plant art. As Mr. Mercier suggested, removing the sick would add to the story.

This year our Hot Pepper plants include Scotch Bonnets along with the usual Habaneros and JalapeƱos.

What, you don't feel the need to be warned that a seedless watermelon may contain an occasional seed? How can one even know that without a warning? Lol!

I love stories, and that was a cute one. I'm surprised someone young would even get hanging wash out at all as it's not very common anymore. Our HOA won't even allow us to. We're in the heart of PA Amish country; so they keep the tradition alive with lines of clothing every week of the year.

I agree on the stick being an eyesore ... I think that Scotch Bonnets and Habaneros are similar in heat and taste. What do you think of the difference? Hope you enjoy them all!

Very clever Jenny, thanks for posting. I really like the story behind the first image, and the fact you portrayed it as growing in the garden.

The 2nd really cries blur to me, the potential to create an image where the clothing creates the essence of a being, perhaps adding mystique to an imagined story.
This might be worth playing with in Photoshop just to see what you can do with it

The 3rd is cute - you can easily remove the dead twig in LR or PS etc if needed.

Hi Alan! Thank you for your feedback! What would you do with #2. I tried different things in Photoshop including blur and filters and cropping, but I just couldn't settle on anything. Hope you are doing well. Looking forward to your next blog post! Hope you're enjoying your summer!
