Sunset ICMs

Sunsets are a subject I do a lot of ICM work with, and I am always looking for ways to move the camera differently to create unique effects and to push the boundaries of what is possible.

In response to this discussion, share one of your own sunset ICMs in the comments to show us your own ICM interpretation of a sunset scene.

I look forward to seeing all of your sunset ICM creations.

This one got a lot of vivid colors from the Sahara dust storms that came through the United States several years ago. It's a relatively basic pan, but I love the dramatic tones.

Matthew Lacy Really lovely colors and mood with this, Matthew! I love the way you've managed the light to create such flow and movement through the scene. Nice work.

I love the vibrance and contrast of colors. The oranges and purples are beautiful complements.

Thanks for posting this question Stephanie - it inspires me to get back out and create!

I have included two images for comparison. One sunset looking west and the other with more pastel tones to the east.

Alan Brown Both are really wonderful, Alan! I'm especially drawn to the first one...looking west. The colors, the sweeping movement, and the overall mood of it is really lovely. The pastel image is also really beautiful...but the first image is quite dramatic and really appeals to me. Thanks so much for sharing these wonderful sunset ICM images!

Alan Brown I agree with Stephanie Johnson (StephJohnPhoto & ICMPhotoMag)'s comments. But the one facing east has such a soothing tranquility that is so relaxing. I love the composition with the two clouds and what looks like a third reflected in he water.

I am a little late seeing this post - just getting the notification. The first image is my usual style. I love texture and lines in my images. My second attempt was to try a single sweeping motion ala @Stepanie, but have yet to master the technique!

I think you've done a great job with these Amy and hope to see more.

Thank you, Alan!

Amy Newton-McConnel These are both really wonderful, Amy!! You've really nailed them both...and I love how you caught the line of that last bit of sun with the sweeping motion before it went below the horizon...something I always love to do, myself. I think you mastered it quite brilliantly! And, the colors of both images are really sublime. :) Thanks so much for sharing these with us!

Thank you, Stephanie! Means a lot coming from you! :)

@Stephanie your technique produces such lovely and fantastic images. The movement of light is mesmerizing!

Amy Newton-McConnel Thanks so much, Amy, for your kind and generous words about my images. It means a great deal, and I'm glad the work resonates with you in such a way. :)
