Need some help with strobes!

Hey guys, I could really use some help. What is a good alternative to the way-out-of-my-price-range Profoto B1. I was looking at the Flashpoint Rovelight 600. My setup is a Canon 5d mkIII and Youngnou 622-C and 622-C tx triggers. I am a wedding photographer and I really need something that can handle hypersync/supersync to be able to kill the ambient light outdoors but enough power to perform at 1/8000th of a second. I know this is asking for a lot but I know there is something out there, just dont know what. Please help!!

I wish i could help you, but I've only used speed lights

i love my speed lights too, but just not enough power when using high speed sync.

I would've suggest AB's until you mentioned HSS, I don't think it works with those (or not without lots of DIY'ing, at least).

I have used HSS with Interfit strobes before, just used them for a couple shoots during a shootout, maybe look into those?

i do have an AB1600, works ok with Hyper sync or super sync as Youngnuo calls it. I would prefer more power if possible but it gets the job done i suppose.

Really? What's your setup to get high speed sync out of the ABs? All my googling has pointed to it not working.

just to clarify, its not high speed sync, that is a process of a speedlight continually firing light as the shutter opens and closes. Hyper Sync (as pocket wizard calls it) or Super Sync (as Yongnou calls it), is syncing the timing of the strobe (which cannot firing continually) with the camera shutter to capture the peak point of the flash burst, and if you have the right strobe with a longer flash duration, you can get good results. I have the AB1600 and from what i read, it is much better than the AB800 because it has a longer flash duration. I use the Yongnou YN-622C tx trigger, change the mode to SS or SuperSync and vuala, its like magic. Great triggers, too. I have been using them for years, no problems.

Hah dammit I had that trigger once, realized didnt get the right transceivers for it, and got rid of it. I keep finding uses for it now that it's gone lol.

Thanks for the help

I've used the Lightrein LR6BAT, and it's quite good.

It's a Canadian rebrand of the Dynalite Baja B4

And here's a vid of The Slanted Lens that uses the Baja B4

I have used 2 Alien Bee AB800 strobes for 10+ years. They have never let me down. Simple and affordable.

Alien Bees + Vagabond + either PW Mini tt1/Flex tt5 or Radio Poppers JrX is probably your best bet.

I've personally used AB 1600s and PW Mini/Flex to great success with high speed sync. One of the reasons the AB 1600 worked with PW hss is the longer flash duration of the AB 1600. Not super intuitive, but if you get into the weeds with the data, the evidence is there.

While I got great results with high speed syncing with the Mini/Flex system, they have been quite unreliable, so I would avoid them if you can find another system that works.

I had a Mini TT1/FlexTT5 setup and had very unreliable results. VERY frustrating. Spoke to PW about it and they swapped my MiniTT1 for another FlexTT5. They confirmed that the Mini can be wonky at times. The Flex can be a transmitter and receiver so that's what ice been using. Ever since then they've worked flawlessly. Give it a shot!

High speed-the PaulCBuff Einstein's are pretty fast

Yongnuo triggers do HSS via hotshoe, but that is still NOT the hypersync you're looking for... which they don't do (I learned the hard way after buying some. Luckily, I bought through Amazon and returned them without a hitch). Certain Pocket Wizards are the only third party triggers that can do hypersync (Profoto and Elinchrome have triggers that can do hypersync with some of their strobes, but not all).

You can shoot in "Super Sync" mode with Youngnuo triggers, I do it all the time. I do own the AB1600 but didnt know if there was a better combo to use
