Looking for some Critique.

Hey guys!

I've been a photographer for about 2 and 1/2 years now. I mostly do portraiture, but I am looking to transition more to the fashion side. These shots were all taken of a co-worker without and professional hair or make up done. I was mainly working on posing, lighting, and retouching. Any thoughts, or critiques are greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I can post sooc if that will help critique the retouching.

I have to say, I really like these. I feel like you have a good connection with clothing. In the first 2 images the hat is being used in a clever and creative way. I've always believed that fashion photography should be about more than just letting the clothing sit there. In both image 1 and 2 the hat is the star of the show.

Over time I think you will learn compositions and placement that will further enhance the clothing. But so far it is a great start. Roll with it.

I feel like your lighting is also great. You clearly show a natural understanding for shaping light and harnessing it to the best ability.

Your post work here is pretty nice as well. At times I feel like the D&B is a tad heavy on the face.....but ever so slightly.

My big issue with these images is composition. I feel like none of these crops particularly excites or works for me. And that is a shame because your colors, focus, tones, lighting, and model are all really nice. The composition simply spoils it from being a GREAT photo, to just an average one.

Over time you will work on that I'm sure, and when you work with experienced models their posing will help enhance that.

I truly believe you have some VERY good potential. Keep up the great work. :)

Thanks Peter! Now to actually find some presidio all models and some paying gigs.

I think they kind of great.... very unique and natural... good job

I can see your background in portrait work in these photos. Try shooting some with the focus more on fashion and less on the model. Try also to shoot with only one style then move to another style as you evolve as a photographer.
