Robert Howarth's picture

The Cormorant fisherman

I had planned this picture for quite a while and on the day I took a motor raft up the Li River with an interpreter at 3 am hoping the capture pictures during the blue hour. It was almost a disaster due to condensation forming on the lens. I had placed the cameras and lenses in zip lock bags to get them acclimatized but took them out to early and condensation formed inside the lens however after about half an hour it did clear. I waded into the river and set the camera up on a tripod and bracketed my exposure knowing I would have to replace the bright lamp and sky with luminosity masking in post production. Like other people have said Blackbeard is quite famous in the area and the fishermen don't actually catch many fish these days due to over fishing and instead make a better living off posing for pictures.
