35mm focal length: Equi distant subjects in composition

Hello,

I was trying to practice composing a picture that used lines as a compositional element. Finding this scene I was drawn to the diagonal line drawn by the wave meeting the beach and the vertical lines of the factory towers in the background along with the kid adding some visual balance to the right edge of the image. However, since I have been shooting with a 35mm lens, one challenge I face with an image like this is that the vertical lines in the background and even the kid seem far off and thus it feels less powerful than the scene as I saw it. Any advice on how to compose this scene with a 35mm lens would be much appreciated along with general feedback on the composition! Much thanks.

Paige's booth portrait

Recently, I taught an Off Camera Flash class. Paige was my model for the class. We were outdoors but it started to rain. Luckily, a nearby restaurant let us conduct the class in their dining room.
