Here is a sample of my work on Southern California Architecture, mostly in Burbank, Los Angeles, and Culver City. Much of Southern California Architecture is what I can best describe as aggressively modern, with blank or multipurpose spaces, lightweight metals that border on the tacky, and a functional/commercial approach to creativity.
And yet, I love it.
Something about the fastidious dedication to simplicity and interaction with environment, at the cost of more aesthetically pleasing concepts, fascinates me. There is movement, there is life, but it is synthetic and geometric; creative but not loving. As a result, I frequently shoot with a 50mm lens (nifty fifty) in an attempt to isolate the features. I shoot in color, but prefer muted or and harsh looks over soft and flattering. All of these photos have been worked in Lightroom, but only to reflect what was already there. I altered very little and tried to match the ethics of my subject.
I think I get these ideas across in my shooting, but I would love to hear feedback and criticism about both the technique and meaning you find in all of these.
