David Perman's picture

Simplicity

I liked this image because it involved round and flat surfaces. I need comments on the theme idea. Even a small detail pointed out to me would be appreciated.

I just added my recent edit. Let me know if this is an improvement.

I like the simplicity, David, the theme, and your composition.

A couple of things suggest themselves to me. Firstly that the sky area, especially in the middle, is too bright Secondly, the sky is a bit too cyan, especially at left. Finally - and this is utterly subjective! - it's a bit of a boring postmodern-looking building, with those "happy" golden-sandstone-and-blue colours typical of its genre. I think it would work better as a monochrome (not something I often say) and perhaps more moody. It's a bit like a brochure image - which may be exactly what you're after! I'd enjoy it more if it had a bit of grit, imperfections in the building, or a threatening mood, for instance.

I append a quick edit to suggest what I mean. It's full of artifacts, but I hope you get the idea.

After hearing your perspective, I now realize that my image was too bright and that I need to embrace more dark tones along with the grit which you mentioned. I will work on it some more and reupload it when I feel it is ready.

I'll be interested to see it, David. I'm not sure if your intention is more promotional, or art for art's sake. I assumed the latter, perhaps prematurely.
