Hello everyone,
I know this picture might look a bit off-topic..
My intention was to focus the attention on the architecture of this gorgeous castle while trying to give a composition boost to the image via the portico on the internal garden.
I would love to have some feedback and thoughts about the shot
Thanks
I see what you've attempted with the composition, but it just doesn't work for me. The lines of the roof and beams draw my eyes to the left instead of helping focus on the castle background, and once I'm on the left, I'm greeted with a giant black shadow in the ceiling.
The shadow is married to the blown-out cloud highlights which were probably caused by a too-dark foreground. Everything in this shot was in the shadow of a passing cloud, so the exposure was boosted enough to make it work, but this forced the directly-lit clouds to overexposure. If you had waited for the sun to light your subject directly, this probably wouldn't have happened. Also, had the courtyard been lit by direct sunlight, the ceiling of the portico may have been brightened by reflected light from the ground to your right, alleviating some of my initial issues
Since I've never been there, I can't offer any suggestions on a better angle. Maybe leaning over the railing a bit to get more sky and less of the surrounding timbers? Just don't fall over it like some idiot trying to get a Grand Canyon selfie.
Thanks so much for your comment.
I hear what you're saying and I agree on the light matter, unfortunately I had little time to get the shot.. For the roof i didn't think thoroughly about the distraction of the lines, I just thought it might have been a "different" point of view and a different way to frame the castle..
Thanks again for your thoughts
