i think some separation in colors could work a little bit here. the shot is a little wide in my opinion and crop could work here. the sky is fairly boring as well which a simple sky replace may help. i really would have liked to see maybe someone walking down the path towards the building as it is just a little bit of a boring scene. just my opinions in this case, otherwise its a decent shot, but some improvements may be good for a portfolio worthy image.
Yes of course, opinions are valued always.
I agree, the shot was more of an exercise for myself, but I can see the reasoning behind all your points.
As for the people it was -30 haha. But yes I agree, some liveliness would do it good, I'll return in summer and give this another try I think.
I think if you crop out most of the sky it would make it more dramatic. The boardwalk in the foreground would have more impact and the building would come across as the goal of the journey.
As much as I agree from a classic definition, it's actually becoming a trend in commercial architectural photography to include expansive sky in the establishing shot. (Not that it makes it a good idea)
Good points!
And it gives me ideas for round 2 or future shots I go take.
This was an exercise for me and in no way for a client, so the whole purpose was to practice, learn and get feedback so I thank you!
