I must admit I have been lax in both my shooting and posting recently, perhaps due to the fact my wife has now retired, and we are spending a LOT more time together doing various activities.

How about using a dark background and lighting the edges and contours of the object? Sharp angles for the lights might help bring out textures and details without illuminating the whole thing too much. Try using a polariser on your lens for extra control over reflections from the lights if needed
