Here is my first attempt at a motion blur. I used a rig to mount the camera to a pole and the car. Would love to hear other ways to accomplish this effect. Would a chase vehicle be better?
I like rig shots, less blur & more flexibility - you can even strobe parts of the car while the camera is still on the rig then mask it in with photoshop.
nice shot though! here is a shot of my S3 with a rig.
I think you did a great job for your first attempt at motion blur. About the chase vehicle, that works great if you are shooting more of a side angle of the car, up to a 3/4 angle. The angle you have here works better with a rig actually. Hand held motion blur from a chase car works best if the motion is perpendicular to the lens because hand held requires a faster shutter than a rig shot. With the rig, you can get more blur at a wider variety of angles because you are not limited by your shutter speed. I love this shot actually, while the car is not a Mopar, it has a real "Vanishing Point" feel to it!
Looks good to me! I'm not a big fan of the tilted look but that is just me being a weirdo.
The angle on the car is nice, you can see whole front end as well as most of the side. I Also like how everything leads your eye to the sun flare at the back of the car.
As far as rigs, all I can say is when me and my friends have tried this it usually involves 2 cars, and me hanging out, using my tripod(or mono pod) and a shutter release cable. I think your method is probably a lot safer and much more legal.
