McLaren 570S Interior

Interior of a McLaren 570S shot in the owner's driveway and composited over a stock photo. My first try at such a composite, inspired by a few beautiful similar interior shots I have seen recently. Lighting was a challenge, as the only modifier I had was a 24x36 inch softbox, but we made it work somehow!

I really like the lighting of the interior.

For your first composite, it looks very clean.

incredible work

Lighting is great. The difficult part with compositing a background image like that is the overall colors and lights that affect the foreground. If you want to make it superb (it's a quite good attempt, BTW) you need to add light spills where there are highlights on the background, as well as some color casts from the background. I had similar issues on my old composites which made me wonder why it wasn't looking quite realistic.

Thanks for the cc Tihomir, I appreciate it! When I shot the car I planned to just black the windows out and just show the interior, but then I found the backplate image and felt it would fit well if I could pull it off properly. Kind of dug myself a hole from the start by not introducing any light through the windshield. If I had another shot at it with some things I've picked up since, I would definitely add more light spill to the car with luminosity masks or color selecting. Are there other methods or techniques that you would personally use to add light spill or make it more convincing overall?

I tend to keep it quite simple by using just curves, solid color layers (in Screen or Overlay mode), or sometimes even draw the spill by hand.

I think the more proper term is "light bleeding" where there are highlights from the backgrounds meeting the edges of the foreground. If you give it a try with the green traffic light, the bright sign on the building in the far, the windows on the left and the street light on the left, you will see a tremendous difference.

Thanks for the quick reply, I appreciate any insight I can get! Not sure if the resolution here allows for it but I actually did add a touch of yellow, red, and green on the dash corresponding to the backplate when I originally edited this, but it was definitely not enough
