Okay, so I'm new to photography and definitely new to automotive photography. These are the first pictures I've taken of this category and was wondering what other apertures are taking so I can see where on the line of progression I am. I'd love to see your earliest work!
I am on this group but only an occasional car photogrpher.I think you are on the right track but the bottom shot seems to be a bit too cropped. I think you need more or less in this pic.
First, what is that green monster and where do I get one? lol! That is awesome!
As for the photography, I think you've done good work here. I love the first image... The bright green, and just the subject in general, really make this good.
The 2nd image, I would consider zooming out just enough to include the full dashboard, especially the 2 bolts that are cut off on each edge (that's just my OCD talking). The "straight on" shot is composed well to me, with the center gauge and rearview mirror lining up right where it should. Just my personal taste, but maybe add just a touch of warmth to give it more of a vintage look?
For the 3rd image, I think the Mustang looks sharp, the car's color and detail are good, and the headlights really pop. Once again, just personal taste, but I would think about pulling back a little on the blue in the background. To me, it seems too blue (but, like I said, that's my personal taste).
For the 4th image, I have to agree with Geoff about the crop. Given the desaturation of the photo except for the red lettering, my eye automatically goes to that tire. It's in a good position to be the focal point, but I'd expand the crop enough to show the full tire.
Overall, great job! Definitely keep going with the automotive photos!
you have obviously edited these your way because its what you like and its your style so just stick with that for now, the only shot that drives my eye bonkers is the mustang shot, the angle of the mustang should be priority and level that's your focus point, and as mark said the rich red then the immense blue are fighting for your attention, i would bring the saturation of the background down and not use so much vignetting. The other three are fine for introduction to automotive photography, my best advice is pick up BBC-top gear magazine, super street, motor trend magazine and study those types of magazines shoots to see how they line a shot up.
