1933 Ford Speed 33 Keystone Coupe by Chip Foose

I had an opportunity recently to participate in Samy's Camera (Los Angeles) automotive photography workshop and photograph Ron Bown’s stunning 1933 Ford Speed 33 Keystone Coupe, built by legendary hot rod builder Chip Foose, at the Petersen Automotive Museum’s private in-house studio. The workshop and instruction was excellent - especially for this beginner. This is one of my favorite shots from the workshop.

While I've been taking pictures casually since I was a kid, I retired this year after 45 years in marketing, and decided I needed a serious hobby. So I bought a Canon EOS R, some lenses, and a subscription to Adobe Creative Cloud. Thanks for looking!

Art Deco Design at its finest. me a novice am amazed seeing this image.

Great job, Daniel, beginner or not. You show the machine's character and lines off very effectively. Like the low angle.

Thank you Chris. The instructor added a red gel to one of the strobe lights, which really added an interesting effect.

Everything about this is stunning!

Thanks John. It is a beautiful car!

Awesome shot. I really like the low oblique angle you shot from. You mention the red gel - is there also a blue gel somewhere camera left?

Jerry, sorry for the delayed response - holiday travels prevailed! The car is painted silver and blue, so I'm assuming the blue you're seeing is a reflection off the white background. (I'm just a beginner, so I may be off on my explanation!) Here's a shot I took of the car without the red gel. Without the red gel, the photo looks just like a thousand other images others have taken of this famous hot rod.

BTW, there is a very fine red pinstripe where the blue and silver meet - you can see a hint of it in the photo.

On closer examination I see the red pinstripe. That is a very nice detail of the unique paint scheme. Thanks for the explanation Daniel.

I just went to the Petersen Museum and got to tour the Vault and Photo Studio. Such a great experience, I would love to photograph that collection in the Vault.

Creigh, The museum occasionally hosts photo workshops with Samy's Camera. Check with the muuseum or Samy's for upcoming dates!
