New guy,
This is my second year photographing my daughters HS soccer team. I think my main issue is the lack of range. I’m cropping a good bit because it’s hard to fill the frame with a 70-200 and I’m trying to make the most with what I have.
What do you think?

Good job on capturing these moments. I'd crop even more (in post in this case). Sometimes it's not about getting the environment, but the expressions and the intimacy with the ball.
Yeah, sports is the one place where Gear absolutely matters. The Canon 1.4x actually works pretty well. I would suggest getting thats to start with. Always make sure you shoot at your widest aperture. Seeing so much of the background clearly is very distracting. If not, then always try to position yourself like you did in the first shot, where you have a less busy background. First thing I do when I show up to shoot, decide: 1) Where is the sun/light coming from. 2) What would make the best backdrop. Sometimes 2 is more important. Yes, if you still have the file size to play with, crop both of these more. Wasted space on the left of shot 1, and crop out most of the cars and foreground in shot 2.
