Shooting Ice Climbing at Night

Got to go ice climbing last night with some coworkers and wanted to try and get some cool photos for our social media pages. The climbing was awesome, but the shooting was very challenging. Lots of mixed color temperature headlamps used as spotlights. Generally shot from ISO 6400-12800, f2-2.8, and 1/60-1/100sec. After getting frustrated shooting mostly butt-shots, I climbed up with my camera, tied off, and was able to get at least one usable image. What do you think? Color or Black and White? Any tips for shooting action sports under mixed lighting?

I'm impressed with what you did get under such difficult conditions. Last time I went ice climbing at night I took that as an excuse to leave the photo gear at home.

The black and white does look just a bit nicer, because there's a weird green cast on the colour image.

I bought myself a couple accenders for taking climbing photos, you're right, you have to be off the ground to get anything that isn't a butt shot!
