Athens photos
A few shots from the winter of 2025. The last one was inside of the Acropolis Museum. (Unfortunately, I could get everyone to walk exactly where I wanted them to. hahaha)

Focus Stacking ~ New to Me
I am interested in learning Macro/Closeup photography and understanding that Focus Bracketing is a good part of the process, I thought I would give focus stacking a try.
Vintage Lens
Another visit to our garden using a vintage lens (Canon FD 50mm f/1.4) on my Canon R5. NOTE: With this lens the minimum focusing distance is 18" at which point you have 1/4" depth of field.

solid photo, but what is this food?
Thank you for your praise! These are mooncakes. Its a traditional Chinese desert that we eat to celebrate mid-autumn festival, which is when the moon is at its brightest. However, this is a more modern take on the traditional mooncake. The traditional mooncakes are made of lotus paste and are baked whereas this one was made of custard and does not require baking.
Got it-sorry I am unfamiliar with this food. I do feel though that food photos are most effective when the viewer can clearly identify the food and has some expectation of the flavors involved.
That is true! Never thought about that. Guess in this case its a more local (Singapore) context haha. Was more concerned about how its lit for this picture though because I feel like something's missing although I'm not sure what. And no worries about being unfamiliar. It has yet to get big in the global arena as some other Chinese delicacies have already.
Hey Scott,
Great concept. A couple of pointers for you. For me 50% of food photography is in the styling and 50% is the lighting and angle.
1. Rather than just cut the mooncakes in half, it would have looked better broken open with a rougher inside showing. Also, always think in odd numbers for food... so 3 rather than 2.
2. The background is too dark, almost black infinity looking. You need to have some feel of what the props are sitting on. A little more fill from the mid left of the shot would have done that for you and also bought out a little more shape to the teapot left side
Other than that, a good shot.
Hey Jonboy,
Its not Scott that took the photo but me haha.
Thanks for the comments! I really appreciate it. Would definitely try out the stuff you've said. Thank you so much!
Cheers man.
