I decided to try my hand at some street photography, this evening. Admittedly, I was pretty nervous. Any criticism is more than welcome. Also, I'd really like some tips for becoming comfortable out on the streets of a big city. I don't live in Indianapolis; in fact, I come from the exact opposite of a big city (my hometown is roughly 1,200 people!). Thanks for checking out my photos. I really appreciate it.
Hi Jon, well done for getting out there! If your'e new to street work here are a few tips. Equipment any digital'slr camera will do as with lenses there is no right or wrong. I would suggest using your phone camera at first to get use to street work and feel comfortable. What works for me is a small camera with a fast lens...a wide angle to include more people in the shot. Big cameras and long lenses tend to put people off...Settings...as a beginner set control on P or set on A or S priority with ISO set on auto. You also have to consider movement of your subject......practice, practice...take lots of shots and you will get better at it. You have to think composition and think fast. Your first shot of a man front of window...too much space above his head, good you got close but if he was ok with you shoot a few more from different angles. Woman on bike, not in focus, adjust shutter speed , get the whole of bike wheels in shot...the last one , again composition, big car takes over is distracting, and the road lights, get in front of woman ,think framing....wait for a good moment ...personally l don't like my people to be smiling at my camera its too much like a snap shot.
The architecture....what did you set out to do people or architecture? Stay focused and shoot people don't get sidetracked
Hope this helps? Post more:-D
