For reader reference: I picked up a camera in March 2020 to document the pandemic - with zero experience prior. Since, I have spent most of quarantine studying. I've learned my niche is Street Photography/Documentary Photography. This is the last photograph I've taken. Location: NYC - Brooklyn; Date: September 2020. Camera: RICOH GRiii - monochrome; manual.
I could really use:
1. Some insight or helpful tricks on lighting settings; and
2. Honest critiques.
I recommend viewing the full size photo for better detail.
Hi Rosemary,
Though not much of a practitioner (and no expert) of street photography myself i absolutely love the genre...
Congrats and kudos to you on taking up the camera - the only problem i found with me is that once i took the camera up, i couldn't put it down again.
So... to my critique.
I love the idea behind the shot and it really does bring home just how this bug has affected our everyday lives. The only suggestion that I can offer is to do with composition. After studying the shot i find that my eye is consistently drawn to the central figure and is unable to really assimilate the supporting stories going on around him. Perhaps by placing him to the laft or right of the frame would free up the eye to riam the image.
As a last suggestion, perhaps taking the shot from slightly more to the right and so having the people approaching you?
In any event, keep on with the photography...
Regards,
Mike
