Gion-Andri Derungs's picture

Grasshopper (Tettigoniidae, Pholidoptera ?)

I found this grasshopper (Tettigoniidae, Pholidoptera ?) in the woods. It was sitting on this dead twig. The picture's made handheld and is a focus stack of two pictures. I used Affinity Photo for stacking.

Looks great! I think I would rotate 90 degrees and make it horizontal though. The light would still come from the top, so it would be believable. Bugs don't seem care which way is up, but my simple human brain likes to see the head higher than the tail as long as it is believable.

Thank you Troy. I actually have it already rotated to left. the capture is almost upside-down. I will post the original capture tonight.I will also try your idea.

The only light I had was my flash. The ambient light was really faint.

As promised the original and your suggestion. I like your version, but it looks different. ;)

I feel as though some can and should be turned, but imo it ends up making the picture look weird. Maybe it's cause I know I didn't take the photo like that? No sure.

I had some really great pictures, or so I thought of a grasshopper, got inside and the picture was washed out.

Now I have Photoshop and will start using raw photos just in case it happens again.

Nice picture. It seems angry. I keep finding these bright green ones that seem to pose for me but don't ever seen to get the right picture to post.

Maybe tomorrow...

It's definitely in that little walnut between my ears. ;) It looks weird, because I know how I saw it. You are right with that. But nobody else know it...

It seems those hoppers always looking angry or grim. You have to be careful with those guys, they have a really strong bite.

Shooting RAW gives you much better options with your pictures.

Good luck with your hunt!
