Found this one in my garden, like most of my subjects. Not really sure if it's a hoverfly though, since it was hairier than most other specimen I encountered.
Yes hoverflies can have hairs. Hoverflies mimic other insects. I think this one is mimic a bee. Hard to tell wich species it is, but it could be Eristalis Intricaria.
I've looked up some images of 'Eristalis Intricaria', I think you're right. I thought it was a bumblebee at first, though a small one. The behavior was totally different than that of a real bee, it sat still for way longer.

Nice one! Sure looks like a bee, but those eyes and face look more like a fly to me. I think it's hoverfly, just a great mimic.
