Just got a new camera :-) and trying to figure out all its buttons and features...
the third and fourth pics are a hover bee (i think).
he kept quite still so it wasn't too hard.

Hover flies are a category of their own. I only know this as I spent an hour working on a similar shot and looked it up. Shot one works well for me, I have some similar ones - we see the detailed structure at the macro level and the off centre composition appeals. Shallow DoF provides a nice soft backdrop. I may have gone mono and sharper, higher contrast.
