These are spitfire lavae (Sawfly). They stick together as a group during the day on Eucalyptus trees. When threatened they wriggle their tails and bring up a thick glob of concentrated eucalyptus oil. Rather gross but fascinating !!
Interesting! I wouldn't try to eat them even if they didn't have the eucalyptus oil. But I bet it works well for birds and lizards. I would like a little more depth of field. But the depth you have is placed nicely, hard to do with so many subjects.
I think another interesting angle of this would be to lower the camera and try to focus on one or two of the two closest to the tip of the leaf. And you could try to find angle that gets the face(s) and tail(s) in focus, and leaves the others falling out of focus in the background.
