First Steps in Macro Photography

Hi,

my new macro lense arrived at the beginning of the week. After some first tries in the garden, i decided to take some photos in the forest.
I was very lucky to get some shots of a small lizard.
The light wasn´t the best and the lizard the best model because it was always moving.
I think i should take a higher apperture (used f2,8 and f4) but as mentioned the light wasn´t the best and i wouldn´t use a high iso. I handheld the camera so i can´t use a longer shutterspeed.

The flower was a little bit easier to photograph. I used my tripod and it didn´t run away. ^^

What do you think? I hope to get some advice.^^

Thank you in advance!

Congrats on the new lens you're off to a good start! As far as advice I think the lizard would have been a little better in horizontal rotation to show a little more body and a little less background. I also think a flash and diffuser would help you to get a smaller aperture and faster shutter. I also would help make the subject pop out from the background. Some people love tripods for macro but I don't bother with one as the wind is usually enough that I can't get a low enough shutter to make enough of a difference to justify carrying one.

Hi Troy, thank you for your advice.
If I get the chance to photograph a lizard again, i will try to get more of it on the photo.
I have already thought about a flash an a diffuser. I think it would be a good investment.
