I was walking down the main path at Eagle Marsh (local nature reserve) yesterday and a dragonfly kept landing a few steps ahead of me right in the middle of the path. As soon as I would get 2 feet from it it would fly 5 or 6 feet and land in the middle of the path again. Then I spotted a swallowtail butterfly out of the corner of my eye. I decided to follow it instead and see where it landed. I have plenty of dragonfly pics and still no good swallowtail. As I was watching it a black streak came in from the side collided and they both went tumbling to the ground. I got some pics but not quite the swallowtail pics I was hoping for.
These pictures are still very interesting! It happens probably rarely, that one captures a dragonfly attacking a butterfly.
Thanks! It's certainly a better fate than ending up in the grill of a car, at least the dragon got a meal out of it. I just wish they would stick to more pest type bugs, but maybe swallowtails taste better than mosquitoes They have to be more filling anyway. Hopefully I'll get a good swallowtail pick sometime this summer.
