Tips on focus? Take as many photos as possible! Odds are there will be 1 out of 50 that will work and you won’t really know until you get them on the computer. Tripod works for some subjects but forget about it with insects.
Thanks Dylan! I have a tripod, but haven't really used it much. I'm starting to learn exactly what you said. I went out today and took about 200 macro shots of a few different subjects, and may 10-15 i actually like.
Yes, welcome to the exciting world of macro, it's like capturing something in your hands and not daring to open them up until you get home. When you see a great image on the screen it makes it worth it.
For insects, also you can shoot in full sun. That eliminates any need for a flash (for beginners) and you can really increase the shutter speed for bursts. This is a fun way to get started.
i've been trying to use natural sunlight for now, at least until i get a flash.
i love getting home and dumping all the photos onto my computer, it's like christmas going through them all. even with larger animals you sometimes get a good surprise that wasn't expected.
Nice capture. I like the tones from the web strands.
