First Post in this Group (Venice, Italy)

Hey all! I am new to photography and was able to catch this photo from Venice, Italy. I stayed up pretty late here to get this place almost free of people to get this shot. One thing that bugs me is there is a boat that moved during this shot. I only had 3% battery left and no spares, so I had to go with what I got.

I used a Sony Alpha a6300, Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary.....

Settings 30mm. ƒ/8 20s / ISO 200. Manual focus

I am welcome to CC. Let me know what you think. I have been shooting for about three months now. Thanks.

Hi, to say you haven't been taking photo's for very long this is very good. It's hard to criticise you due to the fact that you could stay any longer so I'll just say things if you went back. The foreground is very interesting with lots of leading lines, It is also exposed perfectly with the bridge almost being perfect., I love the general feel to it. However, I'm not sure if you're good at photoshop yet but what I would of done is got there a bit earlier and use a sky from that time as the eye comes from the top towards the bottom due to the contrast instead of from the bridge to the middle. Also, It should be easily to clone stamp the boat out, if you make a selection and content fill it may be able to do it perfectly due to it being water. Though if it doesn't youtube videos will be able to help! Not only because the boat is blurry but the colour doesn't fit with general scheme. The vertical lines of the buildings seem to be ok.. however there is some slight distortion with the vertical lines you can fix easily. Also, if you used a hue saturation layer and reduce the saturation with a black mask, you can bring out the colour in the buildings more instead of pure orange. Finally, towards the bottom right corner with the blue poles, maybe if you cloned them out to be just water it may make the photo a lot cleaner. Not sure if you're able to do that though. Overall, if this had a good sky, this could easily be a 3/3.5. I may be wrong but this is my personal opinion. Hope this helps and keep up the great work!!

Thank you very much for all of your tips! I will definitely think about all of that next time. I am trying to get better and I actually did clone stamp out some of the people walking by on the sidewalk on the right side of the photo. I have not perfected it yet but everything you said makes perfect sense. Thanks again, hopefully I'll get a 3.5 on my next one ;)
