A view that I have been planning for some time to capture.
Camera settings:
16mm
F13
ISO 250
60sec
Post processed in Lightroom and Photoshop.
I have two questions
-What are usually the best practices in order to pull out more details from a lowlight cityscape?
-Also, what could I have done better in terms of composition for this particular scenario?
If you've been planning this for some time, I'd say you got what you were looking for. This is a very nice cityscape.
The only compositional fix I would suggest would be to adjust the perspective correction of the vertical lines. People who like architecture photos want all the vertical lines to be PERFECTLY vertical with flat horizons and this is easily fixed.
As far as pulling out details in a low-light cityscape, it seems like you're doing well. The camera settings are fine and it was obviously on a tripod, so you weren't forced to use a short shutter/high ISO combination for handholding the camera and so the noise level is not noticeable at this resolution. Unless the original shot was underexposed, I don't think you would have a problem pulling up the shadow levels to whatever you feel looks good. Just make sure to not go overboard trying to make it look like it was shot during the day. A nighttime scene is just going to look darker than a daytime scene and that is totally realistic. I think the lights in the buildings could be a tiny bit brighter, but that's just me.
Thanks for sharing. :)
