Hong Kong at night

Hi everyone, this is my first post in FStoppers! I recently started to dip my feets in the world of Photography.

I took these pictures in HK and it was my first time taking long exposure pictures.. hence do let me know if you have any feedback as I am definitely eager to learn.

Welcome to the group, it's always nice to see people trying something new.

For the first and last photo, the problem for me is that there's too much sky without much interest going on on top, and too much dark empty ocean on the bottom. I think the simple solution would be to try a longer lens, since it seems like you can't get any closer. However, I'm having trouble finding anything "interesting" to point the lens at. It's possible for this angle, you'd need to go at sunset with some amazing light, to get anything portfolio worthy.

For the second one, this is a common thing I see people new to long exposure photography doing. Light streaks don't usually make interesting subjects by themselves. It's best to find a subject and use the light streaks as a leading line, or to add interest.

I hope you're able to get out and keep practicing!

Thanks Jordan, I have been looking for a community which I could share the pictures I take so that I can learn from others and improve.

Hence,I really appreciateciate your feedback on the pictures.

I can see what you mean regarding the first and last picture. I will try to take it during Golden hour to capture a better picture from this spot.

For the second one I will try to apply the same technique with a subject to make the picture more interesting.
