Wacom Tablet question.

I know this is off topic here, but it does involve the Wacom Tablet. I just don't know where else to ask.
I have ordered the Wacom Intuos Medium Tablet to assist me with my photo editing. It has not arrived yet, expecting tomorrow. My question is this: Can the tablet be used for other applications other than graphic work? Specifically Navigating around Windows 10 and use in Open Office line of software?

Yes you can. The pen has 2 buttons to do the clicks. You can even use your finger on the pad like a giant track pad. Having said that, I still find a mouse much easier for that sort of thing.

Thanks for the information. I am hoping to eliminate the mouse as I have a very limited (small) desktop. Maybe 2' wide. Mouse and tablet might take up too much real estate.

You can also use the mouse on the tablet just using it as an expensive mouse mat.

Hi Lee. Technically, Tab + Pen can be used for all mouse related work and if need be they may replace the mouse. however, After using the tablet for some time, find that using pen on tab is way easier for brush related PS work. Keyboard works for shortcuts faster in PS. Pen can select the menus but am consciously developing habit of using keyboard shortcuts. but for some reason, I do most of my work in LR with mouse. For everything else mouse is better and faster than pen for me.

For my habits, pen and mouse are not replacement of each other but they support each other. Every individual can develop their own habit and preferences.

Trust this helps.

Using a Wacom tablet as a mouse replacement can help you with precision which reinforces its use in photo editing. I took the suggestion of putting my mouse in a drawer for a week, to remove the crutch so to speak. The trial worked as expected but I went back to the mouse for standard computer functions as I've read most others have.

Ran into another problem: hasd installd the tablet, and was trying it out. Went to the kitchen for a few minutes... when I cam back, the computer no longer recognized the tablet. I have tried different, ports, different cables. and a complete reinstall. power light is on, but the the power button will not even turn the tablet on.

Hi Lee, I had similar issues back in the day when I got my first tablet.

Make sure your drivers are up to date. You can download and istall them from the Wacom website. In my case, I had to initially install an older driver and from there on it was smooth sailing (mostly)
