HI Zackery,
through the eyes of a relative newbie to photography:
1. I like the lighting and overall composition. I feel like the expression probably captures the subject's personality and excitement (Christmas maybe??).
2. I like the "pop" of the color but I find it a bit too bright and it distracts me from the subject. Maybe it could be toned down a bit without losing the overall feel??

Great colors, great focus. I agree that the background is a little bright and my eyes look at that vs him. Drop that down slightly and then maybe brighten his face slightly. Great shot
