Looking for a critique of a recent headshot I did for a local offshore sailboat race team. This is one of the members of the team. All shots were done on site at the shipyard in a laundry room.
Nicely done. If I was to make a small suggestion. A reflector to bounce light up to brighten the eyes, or lowering the light to again light up the eyes a bit. You have got a relaxed, natural looking smile from the subject. Sometimes that can be the most difficult part.
Thank you for the reply and suggestion. I thought the same thing when I saw the photo when I got back from the shoot.

This is a pretty great looking photo! There are just a few small suggestions I'd have that could make this a little better. Somene else has already mentioned it, but a reflector to bounce some light into those eyes would help. Other than that, his color and hair could have been adjusted before the shot, and his teeth could be a bit whitened. Nothing at all that would ruin this image and I bet he was very happy with it. Nice shot.
Justin thanks for the input. I did a series of head shots for the team and the hair and clothing could have been improved on set. We were rushing but I should have slowed down a little to take the time to look at those details. Lesson learned for the next time.
Perfection in a shipyard laundry could be tough :-) Overall great shot and expression.
In addition to getting some light in the eyes (and dimples) I'd want a slight bit more from cam left. But then I tend to want either fairly even light or extremely dramatic.
Look I think the expression is the hardest part and you've got that. You can tell he's really smiling and not just faking a smile by the engagement in the eyes - but I do think like others mentioned they are too dark.
Also I feel he is a touch yellow/orange in the skin tone compared to the white background.

Is that a team shirt that they were all wearing?
Thank you for your input. Yes that is a team shirt they are wearing.

Thank for your input. I agree that it is too dark.
