Discovering autumn

Out of my comfort zone I decided to make an autumn photoshoot with my kids. Here is my youngest daughter discovering the hidden treasures of autumn. Criticism and thoughts most welcome.

Hi Costas,

Definitely out of your comfort zone. Haha! I took a look at your profile and you have these gorgeous landscapes of the Dutch countryside, so the one portrait shot in your portfolio definitely stands out as totally different. I am primarily a landscape photographer myself, but have done a few weddings, baby shoots and so on.

My 2 cents: It would have been nicer to have some more oranges and golds in the background. The foliage doesn't itself look autumny, although the leaf that your daughter is holding certainly does. I would have included more background too, but that's just my style. Different strokes for different folks. Maybe have your daughter standing a little to the left of the frame, a little further away so that more of the fall foliage can be included in the background. In case the colours of the leaves haven't fully changed, you could perhaps do some selective colour adjustments in post-processing.

Hope this helps. I loved your landscape shots.

Sid

Thank you for your kind words and tips Sid. I could have changed the background as you have mentioned using selective Color or Color FX , but my principal is to always keep my pictures natural and close to reality. The same rule applies also for my landscape pics. For the rest it is very difficult to position a toddler of 3 years old in the desired frame....they are so good on moving around fast and continuous...! I feel lucky to have this shoot. It usually takes more than 300 to 400 pics till you have succeeded into having something decent. 😉 Kind regards, Costas
