Contemplation

I'm not sure if this is the right group to post this photo, but I would really like CC on this image and I figure this is the best place to get it.

I shot this at a town festival today. Outdoor natural (awfully sunny) light, surrounded by a small crowd. I was actually shooting Native American dancers when I looked to my right and saw this man watching.... so focused and thoughtful. I quickly flipped the camera toward him and took the shot.

The more I looked at the original image, the more I thought it would look better without other people in the background and in black and white. I don't usually shoot people but it's something that I'm interested in learning, so I figure I may as well start with this one.

What would you change? What could I do to make this shot better? Any and all CC is greatly appreciated!

BTW, here is the original image.

I think you made the right choice removing the background, all the colours and activity are distracting. In terms of colour v mono, I like that choice as well, the key subjects outfit sits well, the white hair also lends itself to mono. Nice piece of instinctive shooting followed by creative thinking.

Thanks, Mike! Something about this gentleman's facial expressions really grabbed my attention, but the background ruined it. lol!

Daguerreotype - not heard that in a long time.

Thanks, William! And thanks for teaching me a new word. lol! I've seen examples of the photos but never heard them referred to as "daguerreotype."
