Anti-fashion?

The loose aim of the shoot was to hark back to the look and feel of some of the gritty and stark 1950s/60s kitchen sink dramas that were popular back then in the UK. The terms gritty and stark and in sharp contrast to the looks that are currently popular. I suppose they could be termed anti-fashion.

I love moody portraits, great work! Well lit, posed and framed without being forced.

Thanks for that, in this case one light, beauty dish with grid to give the rapid fall off. The important part was the conversation with the model while it was going on. I don’t pose models, I give them something to think about and observe. Letting a model position their own body in a way that’s natural to them I think is key to a natural look. Speaking to them to then provoke an emotion and then taking the shot when you feel it’s the right moment can illicit ‘looks’ that are difficult to achieve in any other way.
The post processing was important, but that’s another story.
