Some of the first shots I took with the 100-400mm

I recently got the Canon EF 100-400mm II L lens and started snapping shots of birds in the yard. I'm only an amateur at this, so any tips and tricks are welcome! I'm really enjoying this and want to improve.

Shot with the Canon EOS R.

I like the lighting in the first photo but the birds eye looks little soft, I would just make sure you are focusing on the eye and have an adequate depth of field.

Thanks for the feedback! I'll keep practising on nailing the focus.

Also I love the focus on the blackbird shot!

Thanks! I was zoomed in to 400mm but the bird just kept hopping closer and closer to the lens. The camera was also having some trouble focusing at that moment (phase detect + long focal length = somewhat unreliable) so in my slight panic and exhilaration I forgot I could zoom out. Once the camera did focus though this was the result, and I'm very happy with it!
