1) is a beautiful purched Hawk, I was able to get pretty close and let my 200 - 500mm do the rest.
2) A squirrel climbed up the tree and realized their was a hawk at the top. The stand off lasted a bit with both animals making offensive moves to spook the other. The squirrel ended up getting away.

Squirrels are crazy. This same scene played out in my backyard but between a squirrel and an owl; he pestered the owl till it flew away...
I couldn't believe the mediforical nuts on the squirrel. It looked like a female.

Great shots! It's probably fairly hard for the hawk to get the squirrel in the tree with all the small branches in the way, and how fast a squirrel can run up and down a tree. And the hawk does already look pretty fat and happy, I don't think it really needed the meal.
