Bird on a limb on a cold day

New to the hobby and looking into various genres of photography. Picked up a Sigma zoom lens and went for a walk on a cold winter day here in Northern Virginia. Managed to capture this picture of a bird hiding out in an evergreen tree. Not sure what kind of bird it is (guesses would be welcome).

I've read some articles on bird photography and at this stage of the hobby I consider myself a spray and pray kind of shooter. Wildlife isn't too receptive to posing requests.

I did some exposure correction in post along with some other minor tweaks. Anyways, looking for your feedback on the photo. What do you like and what would you do different? I have a new appreciation for this type of photography as my hit rate for good photos isn't that great yet!
