Yes, I know that is the title of Maurice Braun's autobiography and the story of the establishment of the Hawk Mountain bird sanctuary. I got to meet him back in the '60s and he signed my paperback copy of his book.
These were not shot there, but I may go back with my daughter when the weather is better. It's about a 1-1/2 hour drive from here. Instead, these were shot while I was walking Harry the Rescue Dog for his daily jaunt around the neighborhood. My yard adjoins the Central Perkiomen Park, through which flows the Perkiomen Creek. These hawks are fairly common. I've been told there is a pair of Bald Eagles nesting upstream.
These were shot 2020/03/02 with a Nikon D810 and a 75-300mm lens at 300mm.
Hi Andrew.
Your 3rd photo I feel is the best of the bunch.
But I have to tell you, this isn't a hawk, it's a turkey vulture.
The bright red head is the give away, along with the white under the wings.
I stand corrected.
