A family of 3 bald eagles, including a juvenile, have been in close proximity to my house the last few days which has lead to some great opportunities for capturing these stunning birds of prey.
The kill in photo #2 was a seal pup the eagles were scavenging that I believe was likely killed by a propeller or a whale and washed up on shore. I think a seal, even an infant, would be too difficult for them to catch, carry, and kill especially considering the abundance of fish in the harbor.
These birds live interesting lives, most of the time I’ve observed them they’re being chased, swooped at, or annoyed by crows. They don’t appear to ever attack the crows either. Its sort of comical to watch these massive birds of prey being bullied by tiny harmless crows.
These were all shot on my Panasonic G7 w/ 100-300mm f/4-5.6 lens which is effectively a 200-600mm FF due to 2x crop. It’s a nice compact setup considering the focal length but unfortunately I can see the quality difference between the G7 and my full frame Sony, but the longest lens I have for the Sony is 135mm so for these birds I’m stuck with the Panasonic.
What a lucky man you are....just starlings and sparrows where I live !!!!😁..love the pics especially 1 and 2 😁
Wonderful catch with hunt!
