Greetings.
I'm relatively new to getting involved here on FStoppers but am open to sharing, learning and meeting fellow wildlife shooters.
I took this image of a Short-eared Owl in flight this past spring in Northern Michigan at the grasslands of Osceola county (upper midwest United States).
Who else enjoys capturing birds in flight?
Having shot many birds of prey during falconry shows I know how difficult it is to get the focus right. Really great shot.
I always found the most dramatic images happen if you can anticipate where the bird will land - talons stretched out and eyes focussed on a specific spot. Takes lots of patience and some luck.
I think this shot might even have profited from a little bit of in-focus surroundings. But I like this a lot. Nice lighting.
Thank you Georg. I will have to look through my shots of that day and see if I was able to capture any surroundings in-focus.
great photo. I pretty rarely get a good shot of birds in flight, but I've been drooling over those new cameras with animal eye autofocus.
Yes, I'm also very intrigued by what the eye autofocus may mean for us that shoot animals.
Nice shot!
