I like the photo overall; however, the slight green tent makes it feel cold and withdrawn for me. The big sun spot in the upper right corner is also rather distracting.

so cool

Focus seems off like it has a bit of motion blur near the eye, I love the bokeh though. The other part of this is that it's just so common, FYI I suffer from this same affliction of taking cool pics of animals but not getting the shot of the animal that I really want to get. I feel like this image is good, it's just not good beyond a fb post. The community is very hard on images like this as they're looking for pro images with lighting and purpose. Look at Skyler Ewing's photos here on FS. She puts a spin on a common chipmunk that we all want to attain in our images. I'm sure she had to take a ton of pics to get this one. https://fstoppers.com/photo/525715 To my point this is a pic I took this morning, It was cool to see a big buck along with 4 of his friends but I won't post it as it's not great. I got too excited to take pics and forgot about bokeh and composing etc.

Sorry my pic didn't come through till now. Notice the 2nd buck that was also a 10 point covered by the leaves. I'm also a hunter so this was pretty cool to see.

I think you got to close to the animal.
Shooting up without having any connection to your subject doesn't work for me.
Somewhere around eye level, or perceived eye level would have helped.
Also the squirrel just isn't really doing anything to make this shot special.
A shot that I took of a squirrel.
It's sitting on the crest of a hill, upright, slight turn at the base of a tree. The fact that tree tops make the background very smooth, and this squirrel was wearing it's bling.
Somehow it got a hair tie on it's neck.
I've seen tis squirrel run/hop, it's lose, I think it could take it off at any time. It's kind of different, and I think those things make the photo better.

I like the photo. Bokeh is awesome. Well played. I like the green tint however accentuating some contrasting elements may add a bit of pop. Squirrels are tricky. There are places where they keep the distance and are hard to photograph but there are places where they would eat off your hand making things just too easy for a photographer.

looks good

nailed it

maybe a crop? But I'm nit picking lol

And he's like wtf is this lol

That looks great! I think the crop makes the tree more of the focus and sets up an unpleasing frame. Just my opinion thought!

Much better. Much more of a connection between the subject and the viewer.

Hi Joel, perhaps am late to the party. Yet sharing my thoughts. yet to read all other comments. Conceptually, I appreciate the composition. a solid element at the left and branch from it making Y junction leads the vision to the star of the frame.

For me there are many distractions around. so here is my take. removed the distractions and selectively sharpened the star.

please ignore if you do not connect.
cheers.
