Black Tail Rattlesnake

A Black Tail Rattlesnake was released back into the wild after an overnight observation that was cautious in wanting to have a picture taken.

Lucky you - great find! I spent an entire month in Arizona searching for as many Rattlesnake species as I could find, and even though the Black-tailed was high on my list, I never managed to find one. Your photo gives me additional inspiration to go back to AZ to try again!

Funny story is being from Missouri I've never seen a local Timber Rattlesnake until recently. When I was on my trip my dad had a 62" Timber killed right in front of his house. Since then I've seen three but never had my camera on me or I had a prime and wasn't feeling that luckt to get within the 4-5' strike range. Good luck when you get back out there. This was at Montezumas Castle and every morning they release any Ratllesnakes they took in the day before for study.
