I recently realized that listening to the most inspiring and awesome music (in my opinion classic rock) while editing photos helps me to produce better results! This isn't even a joke too, I was just editing some photos for a rock climbing gym, and produced an awesome result, perfect color and style, while listening to "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" by Pink Floyd. Could this just be coincidence or could it be a direct correlation from audio to visual creativity and expression? Maybe putting on a certain "mood" of music could better help you to portray that in photography?
Just thinking out of the box here, but I would love to have some discussion if anybody agrees or disagrees, or maybe has some experience with a neurology degree.
Give it a try yourself and let me know how it works for you!
I listen while editing also. Keeps me from focusing too heavily on one "issue" of a shot. If I have to create many adjustment layers or doing frequency separation, I usually turn it off. Those DO require most of my focus.
Types of music I use... Blues, Soul, 80's Rock, 70's Funk, Classical, and New Age. There are a few others I throw in, on occasion.
I know a lot of wedding photographers that edit to epic movie soundtracks.
