I'd love some advice

I'd love if it I could get some critique on what I'm doing right/wrong from some more experienced instagram users.

I've never been super into social networks so that's probably my first hindrance.

I know that I should be posting more often for sure but aside from that I'm trying m best to tag and do what I can but there just doesn't seem to be much action overall.

I've tried googling and trying to find more ideas but most of them just say the same things.

In particular I'd like to know if my tags are worthwhile or if I'm doing something wrong.

Any advice is appreciated.

Well there is no overnight way to gain tons of organic followers.

When I used to be on oDesk a lot there were always tons and tons of people that wanted to hire people as "social media managers" but only to gain thousands of organic followers in a couple of days. There is no way to do this. What you need to do is be regular and interact with the people you follow.

Sadly another thing is to post pics of what people want to see and not only what you like.

I really like the photos you are posting. I'm guessing they are not the typical trendy Instagram photos that get s lot of likes (landscapes, feet, girls) but they are very interesting and will have appeal to a certain crowd. The one take away I was getting was in regards to your hashtags. You are using a lot of them. Which is good and bad. I would reccommerd writing a caption for the photo first and then add the hashtags in a separate comment. This way your caption will always be at the top of the photo. It will be cleaner and feel less spammy. After you get a few comments on a photo the hashtags won't be visibal but you will still be benefiting from them. This will give your feed a much cleaner few.

Oh and one other suggestion I have is to follow a lot more people. Find an account that has a lot of macro photos and also has a high like to follower ratio. Click the newest photo and click on that photos likes. You will see a list of people who liked the photo. Follow a few hundred of them. These are the followers who are most likely to follow you back and engage with your feed. When they do engage with you make sure to engage back. You do not need to do this all the time. But do it every once and a while and you will see good results. Feel free to follow me.. I have some interesting macro shots on my feed @versace_van_londen

Where can I see the people that liked a post? Seems like good advice I'd like to try. Is it on the mobile app only? Thanks!

All you have to do is click on the number of likes. I'm not sure if this is a mobile thing only. I have not tried it on a desktop yet. This photo is what you will see once you clicked on the number.

By the way I love your work! If you are on Instagram we should connect!

Found it and tried it! Right away I had people visiting and many following. Good call! My instagram is https://www.instagram.com/stustustudio/
Thanks Martin!

What audience are you targeting? This is the key. Getting likes is much easier than building a following. The critical choice is to decide who you are wanting to resonate with and find the people to reach out to and the hashtags they are using.
