I like the photo but get distracted by the bright patch just off his ear to our left, that draws my focus rather than is eyes and face.
Otherwise, I like it lots

You got a point. Here is the update.
I would just burn it down to the same level as the objects on the right-hand side background, but that's just me, I am sure there are many ways others would do it
I really like the Photo and subject please don't take this as anything against your work, things like this are subjective and a personal choice
Incidentally, I made this update before seeing your comment and had the same idea about burning down this area as you can see.
Besides, every justified and constructive criticism—even subjective—is always welcome :)
